37 flyte with a cotter pin bottom bracket

I have a 37 flyte with a english threaded bottom bracket and a ccm cotter pin crank. I also have one with a ccm triplex crank

Im going to put the two together to make one nice one to keep and Im wondering which one to do it to?

Ive never seen another with a cotter pin crank, is that the one to keep?

Anybody on this forum have any knoledge about these bikes?

I'm pretty sure I've only seen them with the 3 piece crank which mine had on it but the way all the CCM bikes are, I'm sure there were different versions like yours. Not a fan of the English bottom bracket style but thats just me. Cottered cranks and coaster brakes mean its gonna be a real pain to get apart when you need to. On the other hand, the cottered cranked bike may be the rarer of the 2. I  notice your rear drop outs are different than mine. Mine doesn't have the fishplates protruding on the top and bottom of them. Never seen that before.

Goodday all   I'm confused about the term cotterpin----do you mean tapered hammer in pins on the pedal arms ? Thanks Larry

Yes Larry. I hear them commonly refered to as cottered cranks.

yeah the frame only picture has a bad hillbilly weld repair at the rear drop outs. Curantly being repaired not by a local frame builder.

I hate the cotter pin cranks too, but Ive seen very few CCM bikes in general with them ( probly because they suck). Any chance I can see a picture of your Flytes?

Here's a link to all my picks of mine. It's not finished yet but it's a rider. http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss271/HotRodRob_2009/CCM%20Flyte/CCM%20Flyte/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ16

That looks cool. Is that a 26x2.125 rear wheel? Whats in the front?

Yep, 26x2.125 in the back and 26x1.75 in the front for that big and little hotrod look.

I was a swap meet in Lethbridge and saw a Flyte for sale, there were many changes including a repaint that obscured the serial number. It had a cottered crank and I thought person adapted the cottered crank not being able to source the triplex crank. The seller was asking 2000$.
I own a 36 Flyte, snapped a few photos, and left.
When searching this site I came across this article mentioning the Bayliss Wylie bottom bracket.

I do have the sellers contact information

If I recall correctly, another Flyte with a cottered crankarms and a small diameter, threaded, bottom bracket shell, turning up about a decade ago. My opinion at the time was that it was likely a foreign market model. Many markets considered the cottered cranks to be superior to the one piece crank, particularly Engalnd and most Commonwealth countries but it was the opposite in the USA and Canada.

CCM did have a conversion bottom bracket allowing cottered crankarms to be used on frames requiring the large diameter, press fit cups. However, this was not the case with that Flyte that surfaced a decade ago. It was definitely a small diameter shell with theaded cups. CCM's largest foreign market at the time was Australia, so that would appear to be the most likely source. It wouldn't be the first time where CCM was known to cater to foreign market preferences Austalia received bicycles with steel rims during the era when Canadian models were equipped with wood rims. I also recall seeing some early European catalogues with CCM manufactured bicycles having spoon brakes.
