Spent a wonderful evening with the members of the Etobicoke Historical Society. I'm always humbled when I go out to speak and I meet a longtime employee of CCM. This time was no exception as I had the opportunity to visit with Gord Birtch and his wife. Gord worked for CCM for close to 43 years. First truing the wheels on the Joycycles and then in the sales department. Started there in 1941.
Like so many others, Gord and his wife met at the plant. She tells a cute story about how when the ladies would go by Gord on the factory floor and wave, he'd wink at them. He did it simply because he couldn't take his hands off the rim to wave back, but some considered him an awful flirt, she recalled with a smile.
