Hello from Montreal!

Hello everyone! My name is Brandi, and I'm a university student in Montreal. I'm SO glad I just found this community.. .my grandmother gave me her first bike (CCM given to her by her father in the 50s), and I'm so excited to start restoring it! I've never restored a bike before, so I'm happy to have a place where I can come ask questions if I need any help. I didn't realize there was so much love for vintage CCMs, it's wonderful :)

Your're welcome Brandi and I speak french too :) ..

recently I bought a CCM targa and I need to restore it.. need to restore the rear derailleur ( probably positron ) . all is original except the seat...anyway, lot of work to do because I have another ...CCM Élan 3 speed to restore..

Welcome and good luck with your restoration, don't hesitiate to ask for help if needed.

If the last message's for me, thanks, if not, so no problems :) anyway, for my Targa the problem is:

I need a long enough cable because I know, the rear derailleur is a positron "" speed more or less indexed ""
and it is not simple to adjust it.;)..if you have some information about Targa,.........pictures or how to.. is welcome. sorry for my english guys :)

BIkedenis, I'm asuming the Positron is the "dual" cable version, as opposed to  the later version with the single push-pull wire? IIRC, the "dual" cable version was used on the 1976 Targa and the 1977 Targa 10. You'll probably have to purchase a tandem derailleur cable to get sufficient length. Alternately, you could try splicing two cables together using a crimped connector but I suspect that it would get caught on the run in the other direction.

Here's the set-up procedure, as I recall it (it's been a while):

1. Set the chain on the middle cog.

2. Set the derailleur on the middle indent (it should stay put  as there are no springs inside the body).

3. Use the adjusting screw on the outside of the derailleur body to  center the cage under the cog.

4. Loosen the cable set screw on the lever and place the lever in the middle position.

5. install the cable. Route it from the cable anchor hole in the rear derailleur, around the lever (I forget which way) and back to the derailleur, through the barrel adjuster, to the cable anchor bolt. Try not to affect the lever position as you pull the cable tight and anchor it at the derailleur. If necessary, apply more tension using the barrel adjuster.

7. Tighten the set screw on the lever to anchor the cable.

Hopefully, I'm not mixing and matching my various verisons of Positron. As I said, it's been a while. Good luck! My apologies to the Brandi for hi-jacking the thread.

yes a dual cable on it !..... as I see, I have a lot of work to do ! hoooo boy ! but really,.. I thank you  because this will help me T-Mar and I see that you know  how work a Targa .. I forgot something, I have 2 targa and they are a bit different but in your message you talk about a TARGA and a TARGA 10 .One is a TARGA and the other I don't see the reste of the word on the top tube if i remember me... all my bikes are in a basement at 2 kilometers from me so I can't tell you Although for the moment.. I have to work on one of my recent purchase CCM Elan mixte  ... one bye one at the time lolllll....But I know thta one of my Targa is not original...anyway, one thing at the time ;)
