Looking for tires up North

Hi there: I would like to know what is the tire size of a CCM MARK IV Tandem. I'm having a hard time finding a tire here in Yellowknife, NWT, that fits my tandem.

Perhaps i'm wrong but , may be 26 X ... i don't know , you don't mention the year

The tire size is 26 X 1 1/2 Canadian size, which has a 571 mm bead diameter. Probably the best way to get some tires that fit is to go on Ebay and find some tires that are 26 X 1 3/4. Schwinn did use this tire size and there are plenty available. They can even be had in whitewalls. Of course, the Canadian 26 X 1 1/2 tire size was based on the English 26 X 1 3/4 size. On Ebay U.K. you can find tires in this size that are for "trade bicycles". Whatever you do, you should avoid the American 26 inch tires that have a 559 mm bead diameter. Canadian Tire may have had a tire that would fit the Canadian size rim a few years back. Finding tires that fit the rims CCM used over the years is getting difficult in some cases, especially if you want a tire that has the look of an old tire.

Good Luck!

Following up on my previous posting, I would nt buy any 26 inch tire (except for the English 26 X 1 3/4) that did not specify that it had a bead diameter of 571 mm. The world of 26 inch tires now is dominated by the American 559 mm size which can be disguised in many different ways. Canadian Tire does not appear to carry this size any longer. Some bike shops that have benn around a long time and have not disposed of all there old stock might have the right tire.

Babac Cycle in Quebec carries both 26 British and Canadian size tires as well as 28 inch Canadians. I've bought a few of each from them.

Not sure if you found your tires yet.  I found the 26x1 3/4 tires localy in Calgary at BP cycle. CST brand, model C215

These are the 571 sized tires.
