28" x 1/2" Coaster Brake Wheel
I am looking for a 28 inch x 1/2 inch rear coaster brake wheel.
I am in the process of restoring an old CCM bicycle I found in my parents garage. The rear wheel is very broken and requires replacement. The prior wheel has a Bayliss-Wylie coaster brake hub (36-BW-14) however I would be over the moon with any 28 inch wheel as I am having a very difficult time finding a wheel with these specifications! Photos attached are of the wheel I am hoping to replace.
I will be travelling through Toronto/Hamilton/Newfoundland/Winnipeg/Vancouver over the next two weeks for work and can therefore pick up any parts in these areas or visit bike shops anyone recommends in these areas.
Thank you so much for your help!
Britt
I should add my email is brittbailey@ymail.com
Hi Britt. It seems you are looking for a post-WWII, chrome plated coaster brake with a steel rim. Ideally, it should match the front rim. Do you need a chrome plated rim or a painted rim - what colour? or a chrome rim with flat sides for brake pads?
Attached are photos of a 1940s red painted rim with white painted, pin-stripes, some spots of rust, and a "CCM '37" coaster brake. It has rounded sides and therefore will not take caliper brake pads.
I'm in downtown Toronto. I'll send this to your email as well.

Thanks so much for the reply! Wheels look great. I am looking for a 28 inch wheel but supose I could downsize wheels if you have both the front and rear wheel. I am wondering how much you are hoping to sell this wheel set for?
Thank you,
BB
Also forgot to ask--- hoping to confirm they are 1/2 inch wide?
I'm assuming the OP actually means 1-1/2" wide. I've never seen a 1/2" Westwood rim, even when measured across the inside of the flanges.
Britt, I've tried emailing you twice. If you're not receiving them you can email me at brianrreynolds@yahoo.com (note the extra "r" in the middle). There's no need to downsize as the wheels take the standard size 28 x 1 1/2" tires that CCM bikes used for many decades. The modern size is 700 x 35C (or 38C) - 622. The number 622 refers to 622 millimeters in diameter from bead seat to bead seat. Older tires of this size sometimes have "Canadian Size" printed on the sidewall. I do have the matching front rim if you want both and can provide tires too if you need some.
I'm not sure what you mean by half-inch wide, unless you are talking about the kind of rims you would normally see on a 10-speed. Attached is a photo of a newer style rim on my 1967 CCM Centennial. It has flat sides and could take caliper brakes if the bike had them. This rim takes the same size tire as the 1940s rim in the other photo. It might help if you post a photo of the bike you're fixing up.
Thanks for the help everyone. Correct I meant 1 and 1/2 inch sorry about that! Brian and I have connected via email and have figured things out. Thanks so much for your help!
