Cable barrel for stick shift

I'm wondering what type of cable barrell is on the cable for this stick shift? There is a Sturmy Archer Three-Speed hub, but the cable and housing look less like an Authentic SA cable and more like a generic cable with generic housing. There is a cable stop as one would expect for three speed cable routing.

Thank you!

The stick shift is an early 1970's Shimano "Click Shift".  The barrel adjuster style is correct for the shift lever and Shimano's three speed cables of the era. It's possible that the shift lever and cable are OEM, with the rear hub/wheel being the replacement but we'd need to know more about the bicycle itself to be sure.

Thanks T-Mar. Ah, yes I see the 333 on the shifter now. My apologies, when I mentioned "barrel", I was thinking cable end barrel rather than the barrel adjuster. It's definitely a Sturmery Archer hub, so a likely a replacement. In the picture I was sent the cable is not attached to the hub which makes sense since the Bell of the Shimano 3-Speed hub and the indicator chain of the SA are different mechanisms. To confirm, the original hub was a Shimano 3-Speed, correct?

Without knowing the brand, model and year of the bicycle, I can't say if the replacement is the hub/wheel or the shift lever. Examine the frame around the shift lever mounting band. Generally, if the shift lever is the replacement, there will be  some paint scratches in the vicinity. If there aren't any, then the hub/rear wheel is the likely replacement.

As for the cable end, it should be a barrel with the cable attached to the curved surface, as opposed to the flat surface. I'm attaching an exploded diagram of the shift lever from my old shop manual. That should clarify any confusion.

Thanks agian,

Here is a picture of the bike. Also, this bike currently has a "slick" rear tire. Was that factory? Thank you.

While it may have been manufactured by CCM, it shouldn't be branded as a CCM. It doesn't have the CCM chainwheel and the chainguard appears to say Cougar X-100. If so, that would would make it a Supercycle from Canadian Tire. As such, it may have been spec'd completely different from the CCM models. Often the chain store brands would spec lower grade equipment to hit a lower price point. Sorry, but I can't help with Supercyle specs from this era.

No worries. You have been very helpful. Thank you for your replies!!

I found a photograph of another Supercycle Cougar X-100 with Shimano Click Shift. It looks like a pretty good match, except for the brake cables and handlebar grips. This one is reportedly from 1968. Of course, we would be able to determine the exact year of manufacture from the serial number.

Here's the illustration from the 1968 Canadian Tire catalogue. While, it doesn't mention the brand, it clearly shows what is a Shimano Click Shift. It's definitely not a Sturmey-Archer Sportshift.

Thanks. A wonderful reference and piece of nostalgia! I live seeing old catalogue pages.
