Vintage CCM History

Use this forum to discuss all things related to the history of the Canada Cycle & Motor Co.

the ccm book

I was looking to buy the CCM book shown on this website.

How much of it is dedicated to bicycles? I'm looking more for literature on the complete history of CCM bicycle's rather than the other products they manufactured.

Vintage CCM track bike to Id

Look for information and history to identify this CCM track bike, It belonged to Harvey Philips which he used during the 1950s for 6 day bike races in Ontario.

CCM Flyte Advertisements

I had stumbled across these advertisements while doing research for my Flyte restoration. Thought it may be of interest to some. Hopefully they're legible. I'm not sure how to make them expandable when you click on the image.

Trophy

Hi.

I have just purchased a CCM trophy dated Oct 2 1901 for a bicycle race held at Brampton Ontario. The engraving says it was won by R.W. Scaife.

Also with the trophy came a photo of a young man standing beside his bicycle who lm told is Mr Scaife. I would like to know if there is anything recorded about this race in Brampton and what the value of the trophy might be.

Thanks.

Glenn.

CCM - Points to Ponder

I put together this quick-reference fact sheet on CCM bicycles (1899-1943).

As many of you know, there were and are many CCM bicycle anomalies and discrepancies that we continue to discover as we find some of these old relics.

My research is based on CCM catalogue info, the vintageccm.com forum, John Mckenty’s book (Canada Cycle and Motor: The CCM Story) and dialogue with other collectors.

The summary is not inclusive of all CCM bicycle models but, instead, reflects the information that I was able to obtain. I am sure many timelines are debatable.

CCM Ivanhoe

As I continue to investigate the origins of early CCM brands, Ivanhoe remains somewhat of a mystery for me.

Originally, I assumed the Ivanhoe name originated from the Still Motor Company that became the Canadian Motor Company acquired by CCM in 1903.

Early CCM Head Badge

Based on information from early CCM catalogues, CCM head badge as illustrated labeled ‘A’, preceded CCM head badge as illustrated labelled ‘B’.

From what I could find with reference to CCM catalogues, badge ‘A’ shows up in 1926 and 1927.

Badge ‘B’ appears to begin to show up in 1927 on the CCM Flyer, then in 1928 badge ‘B’ is available on other models.

Notice the similarities of badge ‘A’ to the CCM Cleveland badges ‘C’.

CCM Brands

With a bit of research, to clarify some of the history and origins of CCM brands and nameplates, I created this chart.

Shown are some of the early brands, understanding there were many other CCM brands throughout the years.

I hope this is helpful to others.
