1927 Girls Cleveland

I bought this over the phone thinking it was a 1923 ladies bike and I could acquire some hard-to-find parts for my early men's CCMs. It turned out to be a 1927 girls CCM Cleveland so the fenders, rims, and saddle are unusable on anything else. It will join my growing list of bikes that need fixing. The rear fender has the holes for lacing, so I thought it was missing its chain guard. After checking the 1924 and 1929 brochures posted on this site I discovered it was sold new like this, which doesn't make sense to me. By 1929 CCM had switched to dropside fenders without the lacing holes, and 1927 or 28 was the last year for wood rims on the juvenile model. Strangely, the different nameplates were dropped and only the CCM name was available in 1929 according to the brochure, but reinstated on the juvenile models for the 1931 brochure.

The rear tire is a 26 x 1 1/2 Dunlop Ranger. Does anyone have a similar vintage tire I could put on the front?

Does anyone know the modern tire size code for the CCM 26" x 1.5 tires?

The bicycle is configured correctly. In 1928 the juvenile models went to steel rims and dropside fenders (but still with eyelets and skirt guard on the girls' version), so this is the last year for this particular configuration, which should make it a bit more desirable. The absence of the chain guard on the female juvenile bicycles of this era has always puzzled me too. It's a strange cost reduction but  they offered the boys' and girls' models at the same price, so I guess the inclusion of a chain guard on the girl's model would have cut into their profit margin by too much? Or maybe the ladies' chain guard didn't fit the slightly smaller junveile model and CCM didn't want the expense of tooling another chain guard?

It's nice to see that it stll has the pump clip, even if the pump itself is missing. Sorry, I can't help you out with the tire sizing, as I've never had a juvenile model from this era. Regardless, good luck and enjoy your new acquisition.

Try this tire size  47- 571 Which is 26 x1 3/4 or you might find it in 26 1 1/2.  Not sure it will work but if you can find a tire try it.

i think the tires Greg has should work for you. The older Canadian tire tires seem to fit a lot of the old canadain size wood rims. At least that is what I have found.

Hi Dave you are 100% on the money  just like those old  canadian tires Super - lastic  or those John Bull Srvice Tyres  go on the 28 inch wooden rims real easy fit properly .I just put those 26 X 1 1/2tires on Ccm Ballooner's rims and went on all by hand no tire iron required nice and loose. They will work great for Brian's Application

Thanks guys. Greg, I'm interested in those tires, thanks, and will email you. I think the Dunlop Ranger on the back is too fossilized to use so a matching pair of Super-lastic will be perfect. Although I didn't really want this bike, it will go nicely beside the 1957 Columbia girls tank bike (two-tone green) I recently bought and the 1972 Eatons girls banana seat bike (purple) I posted on this site. They show the shifting tastes in design of kids bikes.
