47 on the road thanks to members
I have been riding my 1947 on the Calgary pathways the last couple of weekends.
Thanks to members Hotrodrob and William Rudolph for sending me parts such as rear axle and bearings the bike is back in service.
The 37 hub braking capability is a little weak, planning a stop is a must. How much pedal play is typical on these hubs, 15 degrees rotation?
A period correct saddle is next on my shopping list, the headset badge is from a later date, tires, tubes and chain are new.
I have fenders but thought I would see how the bike preforms prior to mounting them, the paints patina look apeals to me. Chrome is pretty reasonable shape, total investment to date is under 100$ for a fun riding bike.
Cool bike especially the patina, a bike is only original once. Refurb is good and back on the road is even better. You can restore but usaully it ends over restored. I will always prefer original paint over new paint.
Wondering what kind of tires as I am looking for a set of 28 x 1 1/2 or 700 x 32or40 whitewall tires,if you wouldn`t mind posting,it wouldbe appreciated.
The tires are 700x38 made by IRC in Japan, these are probably not bicycle tires.
They have SULKY SUPER SPORTS - 700X38 - Nylon- Inflate to 50 lbs- Made in Japan -IRC-on the sidewalls.
My guess is they are for horse drawn sulky carts, they fit fine, ride nice, look great, I have approx 150 klm on them without a problem. There is very little tread on these tires when new. I paid 20$ a pair.
Thanks for the info I will try and find some.Better yet did you puchase in Calgary as I have a sister that lives there, so I get up there quit often
