When did CCM start making Motor bike style bikes with double bar top tube

In my catalogues, they first appeared in late1918 or early 1919. This was about 6 years after they were offered by American manufacturers.

Thanks John

In the 1918 catalogue available online, CCM mentions their new model W motorbike but doesn't provide an image. John, if you have a 1919 catalogue image, can you post it? I'd love to see it.

That means they were started in he Weston plant. 1918> was Weston ON.

Hi Brian,

I do have a 1919 Massey catalogue that has a picture of the motorbike model. If I can find the catalogue I will see about posting the page from the catalogue.

John

I have a CCM Cleveland motor bike model with a serial number E7875 any idea on year it was made.? Bike is original paint dark blue also rear wood rim is dark blue and i would say original paint . Someone at some time painted the frame lugs light green i will call it. Lots of scratches but fenders and all are very straight has rear drop down stand with clip Original red Gibson pedal rubbers in not bad shape. I even had it out for a ride today. Put original button thread old tires on it as the tires that where on it where shot. Also New Hercules armless coaster brake that works great.

Hi Dave,

My guess is 1926 or 1927.

The serial number charts published online show EXXXX as 1925.

I had thought the patent pending hubs which had the arm were already being produced in 1925.

CCM introduced it's Motorbike model for the 1918 model year. This is very clearly stated on page 4 of the 1918 catalogue (see attached).

However, in the replacement frame section on page 28 of the same catalogue it also states, "We manufacture one frame only" (see attached). This is obviously erroneous, as the catalogue depicts both men's and ladies' style frames. Consequently, I suspect the omissions of the ladies' and Motorbike frames are simply an oversight. However, it does raise the possibility that the 1918 Motorbike may have been a standard men's frame with Motorbike style  componments, such as handlebars and fork truss. Besides posting the Motorbike illustration, it would be interesting to have John check his 1919 catalogue for a listing of a Motorbike frame  in the replacement frames section. Thank-you, in advance.

Dave, John & ? ?    According to the catalogues;  the  " CCM Hercules Improved Coaster Brake  with side arm and clip "  came out in 1928.  That is the first time it appears in the catalogues.

Also  the first image of the Motor bike model  is in the 1921  CCM Bicycle Accessories   whole sale  Catalogue.

Hi Ron,

I do have a picture of the motorbike model in my 1919 Massey catalogue. I was going to post it but I can not seem to reduce the size so that this website will accept it.

  John

If you could send my the picture that would be great. bikehike@rogers.com

John W.  Try PIXresizer.  By far the simplest resizing app out there. set the reduction at 600 for this site to accept the image..Cheers

The catalogue pages I have show that 1926-1929 they referred to the rear hub as the "Improved CCM Hercules Coaster Brake" and the 1924 brochure shows the armless hub as the "CCM Hercules Coaster Brake"

Someone with complete catalogues could probably confirm that the "improved" version has the arms.

It was called the  " Improved  CCM  Coaster Brake "  from 1925 to 1935.  In 1936 it is just the '' CCM HerculesCoaster Brake ".  Yes the improved version has the side arm and clip.
