I concur. 1969 was the year that the serial number format refreshed and that there were no Elan that year. Based on my current understand of the serial number format, I believe it is a 1977, which was the last year for the Elan. The 1977 version is easily distinguishable from the earlier versions in that it has the model name on the down tube, as opposed to the chainguard.

hello T-mar.. I have an Elan for ladies and don't ask me the color lollll forest green. so the name " Alan " is written on the chain-guard. but for the moement I can't go to see the serial number.
Thank-you, I'd appreciate the serial number, when you can get to it. Just be aware that some of these late 1970s models did not have the serial number in the traditional location, at the bottom, non-drive side of the seat tube. Some have cropped up with it towards the top of the seat tube. In particular, I recall a Targa 10 where it was partially obscured by the top of the seat tube decal.
Love your comment on the colour. You could have the Elan in any colour you wanted, just so long as it was olive green! To me, it looked like a military bicycle that some young girl had glossed up with sparkle nail polish! It was probably the most unattractive colour CCM offered while I was dealer.
Despite the colour, it was an extremely popular model, outselling the other E-series models and I suspect everything except the Targa. There were a lot of middle-aged Canadians who wanted to participate in the bicycle fad but were intimidated by derailleurs and dropped handleabars. The Elan was their bicycle of choice.
Until recently, I had thought that 1978 was the last year for the Elan but apparently the 1978 models were the same as 1979, based on a price list hat John has. In hindsight, I guess that makessome sense. Five year business plans were pretty common and the E-series models had a 5 year life span.
It's official name was "sparkle olive green" and it was the only colour offered during the 5 year lifespan of 1973-1977 inclusive. As far as I know, the 1973-1976 models were identical. CCM even used the same catalogue picture for the three years from 1974-1976! It's your guess as to whether they didn't want to mess with a good thing or were just pinching pennies!
Thxs, that's interesting. I would have said this was a 1977 mpdel based on the serial number but the model name being on the chain guard would indicate it's a 1976 model. .
Definitely not a a 1968 model. The Elite, like the Elan, was only manufactured from 1973-1977. It's almost certainly a 1977 model, in which case it should have a laurel wreath head badge, as opposed to a vertical, rectangular CCM sticker. Like the Elan, the Elite was available in only one colour, officially called "sparkle sierra bronze', though I'd just call it metallic brown.

I'll have to politely disagree.
1969 would be A12345. All CCM Cobras have an "A" serial number and Cobras were only made for 1969.
The Elans were not made that early.
I suspect ithe Elan is a 1976 or 1977.

okay. it seems that this color is general on this model because I have never seen one in a different color than the Green
