Rémi from Rigaud Quebec
The fender set is from 1938-41
thats great to now thanks :) that means i can use it for another bike i ave in those years ,
and looking for older fenders set !
Crown was CCM's budget brand during the 1930s. Typically, they used the standard CCM frame with lower grade or older generation parts, to achieve a lower price point. Their signature component was a three piece, cottered crankset with a generic/non-logo chnainwheel, so the crankset on the subject bicycle would not appear to be OEM.
The earliest literature reference that I've seen for a Crown dates to 1930. There are no Crown bicycles in my 1928 catalogue or the 1926 catalogue that I saw online. The last year for Crown appears to have been 1938, as one is included in my literature for that year but not in any of my prices lists for 1939-1942.
Finally, I've never seen a Crown in anything other than a Standard model configuration. I've never seen a Sport version with a truss fork or even a Motorbike version. Given the obvious replacements of fenders and crankset, there are likely several other replacements. Regarding the serial number, it looks like there could be another character below the '8'.
hi mr . T-Mar :)
berfore 1930 crown was independent ! yes ?
but they where using ccm component right ?
and according to the serial number its a 1926 ?
now ! the fork is period correct ! that i know !
the crank you right ! its not !
the fender ? because its before ccm ! might possible they use these ?
and do we agree ! thats a rare bicycle ?
we will need to find advertise from the 20s about crown canada
and not ccm advertise !
to understand and see those crown model before say !
that is or not right ?
I think that CCM had the rights to the Crown name very early on. I had a 1932 or 1933 Crown Roadster that was blue with pinstriping and steel rims. I used to have a bunch of mid 1930's "Meccano Magazines" that were sold in Canada. one magazine had a several page ad for Eatons in it and there was a listing for a CCM Crown in the ads.
Remi,
The first refference to "Crowm" is in the 1931 CCM catalogue. Could not find anythimg in the earlier catalogues.
Have attached 2 scans. No 1 is 1931 catalogue, No 2 is. 1932 catalogue. Ron
