Curious Belt Drive Sunshine

I have been sent photos of a Sunshine Waterloo kid's belt-drive bike. I think it's what they used to call a "sidewalk bike." It seems to take a regular automotive fan belt. Is it very rare? I wonder, was it a failed experiment or were these made by other manufacturers as well? I imagine the sole purpose was to keep the cost down - comments? I will try to post photos.

I had and restored one of the belt drive bikes many years ago and have seen a few others.
