I am looking for an early 1899 Eclipse Morroow coaster brake hub. This hub has the cone shaped hub with the brake arm on the sprocket side, 36 spoke hole . Any help would be most appreciated.
Per extant documentation the hinged brake arm was introduced for 1902. Consequently, if Dave's bicycle has this hub, the bicycle is newer than 1899 or the hub is a post 1901 replacement.

I want one to put on an 1897 Brantford ladies bike to make it more rideable for my wife. Either brake arm will work for me. I have the earlier one on my 1896 Comet that i have had for a long time and it works great.

hi Dave, although I would really like to help you on this one, I can't, the bike is a 1902 american made bicycle, and no i will not sell it for parts, it's a complete bike in original condition
and it wouldn't make sense to take a part from one complete men's bike to make another complete (especially a ladies bike) sorry I am partial to men's bikes
and i haven't been very lucky lately with my purchases and sales on this site,
somehow I don't seem to ask the right questions!!!
but i am sure you will find one (on the other sites) if that is what you are looking for but like T-Mar said if your bike is 1897 or so, then this is not the right hub for it
I also have been looking for parts on this site for quite a while and even if i know that certain people have them, they are keeping it "just in case", I guess this is where the hobby is going

Who cares if it is the right hub. i have been changing thinks the way i want them for years, as i ride them.Yes you want to ask the right question and i have made that mistake many times.
I have some early Morrow hubs, including one "CCM Morrow" that I am willing to part with, but I do not think that they are the model that you are looking for. I also have a lot of NOS parts for various early American coaster brake hubs.

Hi John \Yhanks for your replyabout the morrow hub . It is the earlier one that i would like.If I do find one that needs some parts I will get back to you . I think I would only take a complete one as parts are hard to find but will see what turns upas there is no rush. i also Did have a CCM morrow hub spoked to a super nice wood lined rim and a matching front one. GT bought those from me at the Brantford meet this past July.. i would also take a early almost coaster brake that they came out with around 98New Departure or Dolittle.
Someone locally does have some nice turn-of-the-century New Departure coaster brake hubs. I will ask him if he is willing to part with them the next time I see him.

Hi John
I would also take a New Departure Brake. This is the first kind of hub brake they came out with before a true coaster brake. Some where called Automatic brake but it did not free wheel . When you put pressure to back pedal it applied a brake band inside the sprocket that slowed you down . New Departure had this . Brantford had one called the new wilson brake 1998 also one called the Dolittle. The hub has to be about 5 inches wide that is why most coaster brakes will not fit a early wide hub space. Plus they look more in common with the bike of the time. They where all add ons I would say . I hope i have explained this pretty clear.

The rim is 26 inch rim for Brantford Red Bird bike 1897 I have the rims which are new .Made by Noah Stuzman in Ohio. i had the rims made special 2 years ago. I would not go to the trouble of filling holes and drilling a new pattern. Getting the angles set up for wood rims is to much work in my book. Yes every thing coming up from good old USA is expenive the way our dollar is at the moment . Its great if your selling.

I have bought 2 sets of wood rims also from Italy very nice and worked great. The ones made in Ohio look more original in design ,do not have flat sides for rim brakes.
bought an old bike this summer and it had a Morrow hub on it, with an adjustable brake arm, first time I had seen one
cool looking hub
good luck in your search Dave, they are out there, they say over 400 000 made
Thats what I am looking for.
did you ask on the cabe or wheelmen? sure someone on there has an extra one
Not yet.
What brand of bike was the hub on? i would be interested in the hub if you are going to part it out?

Sorry no I am not mad. I just said that if I want to put some other part on a bike that is not original to that bike thats what I do .

Dave, the Morrow hub you're looking for is on Ebay right now. It's not cheap, but it's there.
Ebay Item no: 271995330393. But, oops, I just noticed it's 32 hole and you need 36 hole. I guess they made both versions for different bikes.
Brian
Thanks i did see it. If I didn't have a 36 hole rim for it I would buy it.
is it an original rim Dave?
you can either just lace it up 32 spokes, should hold fine or patch the 36 holes pattern with wood putty and drill the 32 holes pattern
but damn that hub is expensive.... but nice

As a woodworker, I find this chap's work amazing.
He makes wood rims:
Ghisallo Wooden Rims on the net.
I have bought 2 sets of wood rims also from Italy very nice and worked great. The ones made in Ohio look more original in design ,do not have flat sides for rim brakes.
