Hello from Toronto
Hello all,
Olivier here in Toronto. I'm a big fan of the early CCMs, and I've always wanted to get my hands on a Flyer (who doesn't!). I've also been building frames has a hobby for a few years, and recently I got my hands on a beat-up 1937 Road Racer. Frame, fork, headset, crank and Bayliss-Wiley bottom bracket w/ triplex axle. The tubes were badly dented so I thought I'd try replacing them... but I ended up making a new frame instead.
It was really interesting to learn (first hand) about the technology behind the construction of these frames. Lets just say there was some weird stuff. I was able to reuse almost everything: headtube, headset, fork crown, seat lug, crank & BB, except for the dropouts and BB shell. They were damaged during unbrazing, and were a bit impractical to use. Well a bit more impractical than the other impractical things about this project.
Anyway. I've been riding the bike for commuting, it's great!
By the way I loved reading the "CCM story" book. Fascinating story.
Nice bike. Welcome to the Forum Oli. Glad you enjoyed the book.

Looks like a nice build, and it's good to hear you are riding it. I remember seeing it, or something similar elsewhere online. Keep up the good work, and welcome to the forum.
Erik
