Need help dating a CCM

Hi all,

I have a resonable collection of vintage CCM's, pre- and post war, a few Sunshines, and some American  and italian iron, and I am struggling to peg a production date on this CCM bike.  It has a serial number stamped at the top edge of the seat lug that reads 56784 with an E below it.  I don't know if that should read E56784 or 56784E.  It has a number of features I consider to be a little unusual.  The seat stay brace has a double taper.  The seat stays are rivetted on both ends and fairly small diameter.  The seatpost is 7/8" diameter. The cranks are triangular in cross section and very finely made.  The rear dropouts have forward facing openings.  The rims are the old curled edge style.  It carries a "CCM Registed trade mark Made in Canada, Weston Ontario"   metal headbadge.  The rear hub is a Bendix with is marked "Bendix made in Canada" with no patent date, and with red Bendix lettering on the side.  It appears that the fender mounts are non-original so I am guessing the denders have been changed.  I would value the opinion and knowledge of the CCM experts here.  thanks for any help porvided.

The headbadge is post war and blue is indicative of a cycosonic drive.  The Cycosonic drive had a  lighter, stronger one piece crank.  Mounted in a smaller sports style bracket, it incorporates Hi-speed roller bearings for easier pedalling.

The frame 1s a 1953 (XXXXXE).  The frame is a probably a CCM "Sports"  which would originally had a SA or a Cyclo 3 speed hub.  These lighter stronger frames were similar to those on the Club racers and Westonias.

The seat, quill and handle bar look to be period correct,  the original rims would have been 26" Endricks to accomodate the centre pull brakes.  The fenders look like generic replacements, originals would have had the front chrome point

A unique set of pedals; I bet there is another set just like them ...somewhere

I make these observations after looking through my 1953 and 1954 CCM catalogues.  Cheers

Thank you for the info.  I would like to put it back to original condition if possible.  Is there any chance that you would be able to post a picture of what it should look like (from the catalogue?

Send me an email and I will send scans  bmwchev@msn.com

+1 to the identification. In case you're not aware, the fork is bent and requires straightening.
