I am working on the CCM Ranger and the stem and handlebars need to be either cleaned and rechromed, painted or replaced... I was wondering is people have had parts rechromed, and is it is worth the effort?
Rechroming can be pretty expensive, try using Evapo-rust. and then auto-sol chrome/metal polish, they both have worked wonders for me and as of lately i swear by these 2 products.

I second that info Alan I have had great success also with these two products. Evaporust is amazing stuff and it is enviro friendly. I have used it on ccm spokes and they come out looking like new.
i havn't used it on spokes but i have used it on stems, handle bars, seat posts, cranks, pedals and many other small pieces of hardware such as headset nuts and even headset bearings (providing the race and all the bearings are still intact). Just let the stuff soak in a bucket for a week or so and maybe rotate the parts every few days or so depending on how much you fill a container or bucket. Then i usually clean it up a bit more with either sos pads, autosol or even both and then throw a coat of decent wax on it to finish it off.
rechroming is pretty expensive... and don't try to get it done cheaply as it will just look like a piece of junk.
IMHO it isn't worth it unless the bike is really special.
try rubbing a lemon cut in half, follow by rubbing with aluminum foil on rusty chrome, better than any commercial cleaner.
