UNKNOWN BIKE WITH CCM HERCULES SADDLE

I am currently working on a TOC bike which I have had for many years..unfortunately there is no head badge, ergo, what is it?  It had a torn head tube, which I replaced.  Has CCM Hercules saddle, ND model A rear hub, Columbia pedals, wood handle bar, period fenders, rack..all of which appear to be original to the bike. see att pics, help appreciated.

The fenders mount to the frame with clips, rather than small bolts and nuts.  Here is a better pic of the side view

Hi Wayne. Did the original head tube have badge holes? Can we see close-up photos of the chainwheel and fork crown please?

Brian:

These photos taken before ir was cleaned up should answer yr ques.  The badge was mounted vertically at a spacing of about 3".

Hi Wayne

Pretty early frame I would say with the straight rear tubes it must have  awide rear drop out . Does the New Departure fit in it with out pulling the drop outs itogether. I would think this was a fixed hub at one time. Very tall frame also.  That 5 bolt sprocket has me stumped. There looks to be a hole in sprocket next to crank arm in picture could that be for a one piece crank with a pin on the crank  arm to hold sprocket. Wood bars don,t seem to show up 1900  on .  Is that a crack at the head tube? Other than that I have no idea what it is.

Hi Dave:

I will take a closer look at the rear drop outs for fit when I look at it next time, although when I took it apart I didn't note the fit to be out of the ordinary.  That is a crack in the head tube, which I have replaced.

I don't know who built it either. It doesn't match any Canadian-made brands that I've seen. I'm willing to bet the clip on fenders were an aftermarket add-on, a 1900-mid teens product so owners of fenderless bikes from the 1890s could update their rides. The ccm saddle and Model A brake may have been added at the same time.

Are you a member of The CABE? I've had several mysteries solved after posting photos in one of their forums. Sorry I couldn't identify it for you.

Brian:

I figured I would give this site a try first.  I will try the CABE
