My name is Pete, I'm 54 and live in a small village in Innisfil, Ontario. It seems that an old hobby has been rekindled by chance. Growing up bicycles were everything in my world, without one you couldn't do too much or get too far!. I rode several different styles and tinkered with all of them, changing out parts for style or speed was the norm.
A few weeks ago a neighbour had an older bike leaning against a tree out front of his house, free. I picked it up, did some research and found out it was an Eska brand single speed coaster brake bike that only needed the handlebars tightened and a thourough check out for safety I rode it around and found it was mentally liberating to ride without all the gear shifting or brake cables to spoil the fun. My wife tried it out and asked "where's mine?". I looked around and found a mid 70's womens CCM single speed coaster brake bike in good ridable condition for $20. I'm not sure of the model, it has chrome fenders and a chrome chainguard that wraps around the downtube, I bought it and went through the mechanicals to ensure it was safe for her to ride. We've been having a great time wandering around our little town on after dinner rides. More enjoyable than I ever would have thought, rejuvenating, really. Being proudly Canadian, I felt the need for a CCM for myself. I found a late 60's mens rambler for $20 as well. It needs a bit more work.
Replacing the spokes as there are a few broken ones and a thourough mechanical service and deep cleaning is needed to make it rideable. I found this website looking for information on these beautiful and classic bicycles.
