1947 CCM Brooks B33 saddle upgrade

I found a used Brooks B33 saddle that looks like it is fresh out of the box.

The mountian bike saddle is gone, replaced with the Brooks which adds a bit of flash to the patina bike.

Got out on the pathways today for a 20 Klm. ride and snapped this photo along the Bow river prior to the wind and snow returning to Calgary.

I am needing some advise on the free play between drive and brake with the 37 coaster hub, would any members be able to help me to determine what is typical for the hubs?

what do you mean by "free play" ?

With the bike at rest I can turn the crank arm from 11 oclock to 1 oclock position back and forth with no resistance.

The bike had a broken rear axle when I found it laying under a tree in B.C. not quite a barn find.

I replaced the axle, some bearings cleaned and greased, since then have put a couple hundred kilometers on it but don't think it is quite right, seems like a lot of "play".

I would take the hub a part and inspect the brake shoe and the 2 wedges that expand the brake shoe. They can be worn  as my `56 Zenith balloon tire last summer had very little brakes you really had to lean into it to get any braking and there was still litte. So one night I riped it apart and found the wedges to be quite worn replaced with better wedges and brake shoe and voila the tire skids now. Nice hub to work on and simple. Do a good inspection Rob.I got the white wall 28" Sulkys the other day, nice tire and I am sure they will have a low rolling resistance. I got 2 pair. I put a set on a 1970 Super Cycle Girls bike. There were a bike that was kind of drab looking built by CCM 3 piece crank none the less a good rider for someone and original. Hope this helps and for us riders in Regina,Saskatchewan it will be a while before we are able to saddle up and ride a vintage velo as we have a excessive amount of snow.

well I think it's ok... the brake can't engage much quicker. wink
