1947 Monark

Well, they say the Rat-Rod look is what guys like now.  That's good because there's more rust than paint on this old boy !  The double springer fork was worth between $100 - $300 at one time.  Today they make reproductions of this classic suspension.  You tell me... what's it worth ?

... and should I put one of today's gasoline motors on it ?

Cheers - Avroe ( Reg )

i like the look, but as far as value i have no clue

probably better ask the question on an US website since it's an american bike

the only Monark that I have had is a Monark Silver King with a Troxel toolbox seat and the restoration was a lot of trouble to do

That is a nice bike. I would clean it up and put new tires on it. Don't paint it. I also would stay away from the motor. I cannot see the rear dropout clearly. If it is rear facing then it is pre war, front facing started just after WW11. I think Monarch serial numbers can be decoded for date. Ask on The Cabe website, lots of knowlegable US guys will know.

Hi don't think the wheels or the seat are original to the bike bars are a little to clean as well.

The Cabe is a good source for info as well as ratrod bikes.com

The springer is worth at least $150.00 if it is in good working order and not cracked or bent

the steel in the repops is not the same as in not as good .

If the frame is also not cracked or bent its worth  $75.00 to $100.00  .

This is what I would pay if I was in the market I have built a few customs and these frames and parts are not easy to find on this side of the border.

Also yes those ratrod guys like there rust and are constantly comeing up with new formulas for faux rust

Me I like shiny new paint or honest patina .

Clean it up fix it up and ride it
