1948 loop frame back being ridden
A 1948 loop frame bike is back and being enjoyed.
This bike was found beside an old 1950 Plymouth sitting in a yard in Sparwood BC, along with my 1947 mens CCM roadster. After striking a fair value for the bikes I brought them home to Calgary
The original rims were chrome plated with red and white painted center, the chrome was peeling off in large flakes, the steel rims perforated. Dunlop tires were worse shape as the tread could be seperated from the carcasses by pulling on them.
Thanks to Todd in Medicine Hat for providing a set of rims. New tubes, tires, complete tear down, cleaning, grease, polishing compound and wax the bits were reassembled.
I did not want to paint anything and loose the original scrapes dents, wear marks that took years to develop.
The ride is different from the mens bike but did not take long to adjust and start leaning into the corners. The 46 tooth chainring climbs hills far easier than the 52 tooth on the mens.
I get more comments from other cyclists while riding the women's bike than the mens, it could be the fenders that are not on the mens or seeing a guy ride on a step thru frame. The 47 is faster so maybe they can't keep up. CCM=can't catch me!
I have ridden the 47 approximately 700 kilometers since the first of February due to the mild winter here in Calgary ( it is currently snowing here tonight).
Very nice. The roads here are just clearing up to be able to ride. I have a similar loop frame that I ride only a few times a year. Can't wait to take it out. It always takes a bit to get used to as well, but is always fun to ride.
