1970 Galaxie

Hello, I was needing information on a  1970 women's galaxie bike internal gears in the sprocket of the back rim. I'm not very familiar with this set up. I purchased this gem at an auction for 8 dollars. Nice condition, original equipment.

It is nostalgic to me since it was made the year I was born.

Information on this bike would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time:

Sounds like you have a 3 speed bike. Internal gears in the rear hub.

Great price for any condition old CCM. If it is in nice orginal condition, all the better.

If you post photos, or a serial niumber, others will help you identify eactly what you have.

Enjoy the ride !

Vivian, welcome to the forums.

The Galaxie was a CCM model series that was produced for the 1971-1972 model years. The presence of an IGH (internally geared hub) indicates that it is a Galaxie Sports, as opposed to a base Galaxie. The Galaxie Sports also differed by the employment of hand operated caliper brakes and a Sports style frame with straight rear seat stays, as opposed to the coaster (back pedal) brake and semi-cantilever frame style with curved rear seat stays used on the base Galaxie models.

The colour is called Astro Blue and the original price was was $74.95, in 1971. In 1971 it would have been the 2nd highest model in CCM's adult, touring/city bicycle line, just below the Grand Touring. The 1972 version was demoted to 4th position, with the introduction of the 10 and 5 peed Grand Sports models.

Even though it is no older than a 1971 model, it may still have been manufactured in late 1970 and very possibly even purchased in very late 1970, as CCM typically delivered the first batches of new models to their dealers in time for the lucrative Christmas season. The serial number will indicate the year of manufacture.
