1970s CCM Galaxie Sturmey_Archer 3 Speed

I am bringing back to life a Galaxie and have rebuilt the hub assembly but the indicator rod is now stripped.  Can this small part (k504) be sourced easily

you can found some on ebay but........ if your indicator rodis stripped.. you have a chance that the hole where the rod goes ( ouff my english is poor ) is stripped too  John......Anyway, check it too.

Yes, parts are still available, as Sturmey-Archer still exists and the basic 3-speed hub remains (more or less) unchanged.  Any local shop that carries modern cruiser bikes (most of these have internal gear hubs) should be able ot get it for you, or simply order online.

I'm surprised to see a K504 indicator rod in a 1970s hub. I thought they had switched to the HSA part numbering system by this time. While I'm not positive, I believe the HSA-series indicator rods are compatible with the K-series (i.e. same diameter and threading) . If so, it might be a lot easier to source an HSA125 indicator rod, which appears to be the equivalent length to the the K504.

If the indicator rod is stripped, there's a possibility that the axle key is also damaged. At the very least, it probably has the remnants of the indicator rod threads embedded. You may be able to carefully pick these out to save the key.

I found a reference to the K504 indicator rod and it appears to very close, if not exactly the same, as the HSA 125 indicator rod. I have a number of NOS HSA125 indicator rods and if you want. you can have one for the price of shipping. Sorry, but I don't have the corresponding axle key. If you don't want to put your e-mail or address on the forums, I'm pretty sure that our moderator would be kind enough to forward it to me.

The guys at Bike Pirates (Bloor and Lansdowne) have lots of NOS ones in the 3 speed drawer.
