Bike Donation

I am asking for ideas in how I might in some way get  my brother's CCM bike from the late '60's recycled, reused, respectfully passed on. Anything to save it from being trashed. The local bike shop fixed up the tires/wheels (that size wheel is not made anymore ?) with the idea to get it to Cuba where bits of it would live on and really be useful.

I live in Nova Scotia. Suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Hi Susan,  The Port Colborne (Ontario) High School runs a bike rescue program.  Students fix up donated bikes, and they are shipped to developing countries.  There are similar groups in St Catharines and Hamilton, Ontario, but they donate bikes locally.  Mennonite and other churches have various programs in developing countries.  If you contact the people in Port Colborne, they may know of a similar program in Nova Scotia.  Some members of this group may also know the situation in Atlantic Canada.

The serial number on the frame of the bike gives you the date of manufacture.  You should be able to find replacement old stock wheels and parts for a 60's bike.  Tires should also be fairly easy to find.  People here could help.

In the worst case, you could advertise to find someone travelling to Ontario who might take a bike with them.  A shipper might consider donating the cost for positive Christmas-time publicity.
