BlawkHawk Bicycles

At a country farm auction this weekend a friend of mine purchased a pair of his and hers BlawkHawk bicycles. The badges read BlackHawk, nothing else. The rims are 28 inch and say made in Canada, the seats are British  leather saddles., and the bars are not crossbraced. Did CCM make Blackhawks for a certain store, or are they even CCM? Over the phone my friend gave me the serial #s, I have no ;pictures yet. The mens Blackhawk is H088746, the ladies BlackHawk is H115081. Any ideas? Thanks folks!

they aren't CCM because the serial numbers are too long by one digit... otherwise they would be from 1926.

could you post pictures? it always help to have pictures. smiley

Thanks Old Bikes! I'll get pictures as soon as possible, I'm more then anxious to see these BlackHawks that were described to me over the phone!

cool, I'm sure I won't be the only one to appreciate the pictures.

cheers.

looks a lot like a CCM... might date from late 60's or 70's

I thought so too.

Starting in the early 1960s, CCM switched to a 7 character serial number format comprised of a single alpha prefix followed by 6 numerals, so these could very well have been manufactured by CCM. Based on the current understanding of the code, these bicycles would have been manufactured in 1966. This seems reasonable, based on the pictures.

Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that the Blackhawk badged bicycles were marketed through Marshall-Wells stores at least here in Alberta during the early 1960's; the blue Ladies' model that you show the pictures of is identical to my sister's first bicycle which she got in 1961 at age six; I was age five and mine received the same time (June 1961) was a Men's model in red. Both had the white fenders and white chainguards, both were single speeds, and both had 28" wheels. I would really like to find one identical to my old one (went with my newspaper route when I was sixteen to my sub) and I'd like to replace it. They were really good bicycles; strong and well built.

I'd look forward to seeing pictures of your Men's model.....if you happen to have any?

Best regards, David

Hello OldRider,

I am wondering if your friend who purchased the 'his and hers' Blackhawk bicycles at the farm auction would have any interest in selling the Men's bicycle? My original bicycle received when I was age five from my parents was a red Men's 1961 Blackhawk single speed purchased from Jackson Brothers Hardware in Pincher Creek, Alberta; they were the Marshall-Wells store in this town. My bicycle was a red framed machine with white fenders and chainguard, and 28" wheels. It went with my newspaper route when I turned it over to my 'sub' at age 16. I have been looking to find a replacement for this bicycle for many, many years now, and was very interested to see the pictures which you posted of the Ladies' Blackhawk; initially I thought it might even be my sister's as it had a Calgary licence plate on the front axle.....but it likely couldn't be hers as I can see a stick-on Regina licence on the rear fender. Her Blackhawk hung on the wall in my parents' garage in Calgary I think until the 1990's, and my father aged 86 has just informed me that he took it to someone who refurbished bicycles for less fortunate children. I just thought I would put my enquiry out to you, as it would be a very high point indeed in my life if I could possibly acquire a 'replacement' for my faithful old Blackhawk.....and thank you very, very much for reading my enquiry!
