CCM bicycles for women 1949

Hello all . i need a CCM 1949 catalog for a woman . The previous owner has painted over the original painting and because of this , the chainguard is also painted and i don't see any word on it . I know it's a CCM because of the badge ..

The bike has been painted in dark blue, but the original is also dark blue with some pine stripes on each side of the fork and the fenders are withe gloss with some red lines .. the only things that have not been painted , are the wheels and they have a withe line on each side . If you can help me , i would be happy :D  thank you in advance .

I don't have the 1949 catalogue but I do have the 1950 edition. There were only three ladies' models and they're pretty easy to distnguish based on main characteristics:

Ladies' Sport Roadster:

- ladies' sport frame, with two straight down tubes.

- 26" x 1-3/8" Endrick rims, chromed

Ladies Standard Roadster:

- ladies loop frame with one straight down tube and one curving down tube

- 28" x 1-1/2" Westwood rims, painted

Ladies Balloon

- ladies' sport fame, with two straight down tubes

- 28" x 1-1/2" Westwood rims, chromed

Wheel description on Ladies' Balloon should be 26" x 1-1/2" Westwood rims, chromed.

Hi T-Mar.. in the three you mention , it's the second model,  I don't see nothing else

Ladies standard roadster

-Ladies loop frame with one straight down tube and one curving down tube

- 28" x 1 1/2" rims painted blue with a white line each side of the rim .

I just come to change the inner tubes and tires. As i am in Québec, i did not find some 28 ( tires ) but i bought two 700X38C they fit like a glove on my wheels .

12561A is the serial number . A mean 1949... I suppose . But if you have the catalog (pdf) , i would like to have it please . i let you my eMail

If you tell it's a 1950 i don't knoe but if it's the same model , the pdf catalog will be welcome . thanks

I'm pretty sure the mark of a balloon CCM is 26x2x1-3/4 tires.(~50-584) It's called a balloon model is because it has those tires.

Sorry Cbgimse ,if you talk about my bike , no balloon tire was on my wheels, my rims are for 28 tires , 28 x 1 1/2 . I had 2 different sizes of 28 on my bike . one has 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 , and the other had 28 x 1 1/2 . So , no baloon tires on it  but one od the both tires was the right side, but i don't know wich one was original to the bike ..

I mkimg errors and mixing up my tires. 26x2x1-3/4 has a 571 bsd. 26x1-1/2 is 584. My older balloon use the former size. I didn't known CCM ever used the latter.

There is a pretty good table explaining the related sizes here

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

I did some more reading. I  had no idea there was a Canadian size of 26x1-1/2 that was the equivalent of 26x1-3/4. I thought that sort of thing only occurred with the 28" wheels.

The 584 bead diameter size is 650B, a very popular size in France in years past for delivery bikes and derailleur bikes used on rougher roads.

Westood style rims with a 571mm BSD (aka F12) were available in at least three different widths; 26" x 1-1/2", 26" x 1-3/4" and 26" x 2".

It is now almost impossible to source the 25 X 1 /12 and 26 X 2 tires to fit these rims, so 26 X 1 3/4 tires are really the only alternative.

CCM was offering the 26" size Westwood rims on Delivery bikes from the early 1930's on, and the Balloon Motorbike from 1938 or 1939. I know that the early Balloon Motorbike 26" rims were marked "26 X 1 3/4 W.O. Made in England", and were a slightly wider section. These rims were supplied by Dunlop in England. Around 1941, CCM started making there own Westwood rims. The CCM rims had a slightly differeft profile and were not as wide. The switch in rim production explains why CCM higher priced bicycles were supplied with completely painted rims in 1942 (Blue with a wide Silver centre band edged in Red, or Maroon with a Silver centre band edged in Blue)., The Dunlop "W.O." rims that were previously supplied, chromium plated with either a wide Red or Blue centre stripe were no longer offered. he  catalogues listed Westwood rims as being available only in the 26 X 1 1/2 size from at least the early 1940's onwards, although they may have had some leftover stock of the earlier Dunlop rims and just referred to the rims as 26 X 1 1/2 so as not to confuse customers. By 1949, to the best of my knowledge, CCM was only offering one size of 26" Westwood rim.
