CCM bikes his and hers without serial number

Hi,

I recently came across two CCM bikes, his and hers, and can not find a serial number on either bike. Can anyone tell me the model and year of manufacture? The only thing I see are a E and D but no numericals with that. Photos attached.

The subject bicyckes are 1972 CCM Grand Sports. This model was offered in both 5 and 10 speed versions. You have the latter. Normally, on the Grand Sports, the model name would have silk screened onto the chainquard but this was not possible with the pie plate style chainguard used of the the 10 speed version because of the front derailleur. The colour is called Ruby Bronze. The serial numbers would be located on the lower, non-drive side of the seat tube, in between the bottom bracket shell and the front derailleur.

Dear T-Mar,

I thank you most kindly for your expert advice, and yes, I finally found the serial numbers. How do you know these things so well?

Cheers, Klaus

Klaus,

I was a mechanic in a CCM dealership in the early 1970s, then was promoted to shop manager in the mid-1970s. Consequently, I'm quite familar with the CCM models of this era.
