CCM Marauder: Differences in years

Hey everyone, does anyone know what are de differences between every model of the Marauder?

From what I've seen poking around, I've gathered up some informations but I'm not sure if I'm right on some of them.

1970 - B Model -  2-Piece seat, 3-speed/single speed, stick shift, red line tires, no side decals, reflective decals, Hugger Yellow/Hugger Orange paint, butterfly handlebars/ CCM's apehangers, CCM ''Mustang'' Marauder chainguard, wider sissy bar (?), double rear brake calipers (3-speed)

1971 - C Model -  Not much information but I'm guessing - 1-piece seat, 3-speed/single speed, GTX-442 Tractor Grip rear tire, side decals, reflective decals, Hugger Yellow/Hugger Orange paint, butterfly handlebars/ CCM's apehangers, CCM ''Mustang'' Marauder chainguard, slimmer sissy bar, double rear brake calipers (3-speed), CCM stamped 2-legged kickstand.

1972 - D Model - Same as the C model with added reflectors?

1973 - E Model - 1-piece seat, 3-speed/single speed, GTX-442 Tractor Grip rear tire, (New)side decals, plain color decals (Blue/Red/White), Hugger Yellow/Hugger Orange paint, CCM's apehangers, CCM Marauder chainguard, shorter clamped to frame sissy bar, double rear brake calipers (3-speed), CCM stamped 2-legged kickstand.

1974 - F Model - Same as the E model with thumbshift ?

Sorry about the above post. I tried to attch an Excel table. It obviously doesn't work! I convert it to jpeg and repost. I certainly wish we could delete and edit previous posts.

Please note that the attached chart is derived from catalogues photographs. It does not reflect subssitiutiions, running changes or variations in manufacturing that may have occurred during a production year.   For instance, there is evidence from advertisements supporting the introduction of the striped racing saddle during the 1971 model year.

Really helpfull, thank you T-Mar!

Excellent chart T-Mar.

I thought about charting all bike models in that manner, but not enough time in the day.  :-)

I can confirm that the 1971 has an oval head tube decal.

I think the 1973 should have a stick shift.

Thanks on your input on the subject ccmusclebikes! Hopefully this will help whoever is working on restoring a Marauder.

The early 73's could of had stick shifts. If I'm not mistaken, stick shifts were banned in the US in 1974, maybe it happened earlier in CA and had to change it mid-1973, I'm guessing.

What I assumed was a 1973 Marauder had a serial number which indicated 1974.

The hub date was late 73. I even thought perhaps some of the early 1974's may have still had stick shifts.

Any other late 1973 Maqrauder owners out there?

The 1973 and 1974 catalogues definitely show handlebar mounted trigger shifters. It's interesting to note that the shifter cable on the subject bicycle in contention is not routed inside the frame, as it normally is on Marauders with stick shifts. This could be indicative of an aftermarket addition.

I thought so too. This might be another one of those rare areas where CCM didn't entirely stick to the model details as shown in the literature.

This bike is an untouched original and the frame definitely has factory holes for the stck shift mount. It was bought at a yard sale for $15.  smiley

I seriously doubt it is untouched OEM. You've been around longer enough to know the credibility of owner's statements with regards to the maintenance history of their bicycles. The proabability of it being a 1974 model with an aftermarket shifter far outweighs the probability of CCM reverting to shifter system that they had discontinued at the end of 1972.

I have to agree with T-Mar. Shifter equiped bikes ended after 1972 by law. I had a 1973 3 speed Mustang ("E code") equipped with the handlebar trigger shifter. So I don't believe CCM would make exceptions like this if it was a law they had to follow. The Maurauder with the shifter holes was probably a left over frame from 1972 or someone drilled them to fit the shifter.

I'm very confident the serail number starts with an "F'", not an "E" and that the cable hole and all decals are original. That's all I can report. I sold this bike last summer, but will try to contact the new owner to take pictures of those details.

I'm the first one to want to stick to what CCM's catalogs and advertisements indicate and I'm not trying to strongly disagree with the expected 1973 details.

Remember T-Mar, the 1973 catalog is one I am missing. With the data I colected, I had to assume it was a correct 1973. This discussion should have taken place prior to the new catalogs being produced.  blush

Even if it was an E-code, it still should have came with a trigger shifter. Outside of the serial number, other characteristics like the rear hub and decals point to 1974 and the low sissy bar makes it no earlier than 1973. The  characteristics are consistent 1974, with the only anomaly being the stick shift. Given that the 1973-1975 catalogs show trigger shifters for all 3 speed hi-risers, I find it hard to imagine that CCM would temporarily revert to a stiff shift in the middle of that period.

One of the few plausible scenarios is a parts shortage, but even that's hard to imagine given the downsizing of the 3 speed market in favour of derailleur bicycles at the time. I certainly don't recall assembling or selling  any CCM stick shift models after the initial switch. While we'll never know the true answer, the circumstantial evidence weighs heavily on the stick shift being a retro-fit.

Since that's been cleared, I have another question.

Are the side reflectors only on the 71 & 72?

I'm pretty sure there wasn't any on all of the Model B and past 1973, they had stickers. Considering the picture above under 1972 is from that year, I'm still unsure about the C Model.

Also, if anyone have one of those reflectors, it would be nice to know what type are they or confirm what mine has on it, I bought my Marauder in pieces and only had one side, it's a Cat Eye RR-0211.

Hello Ride CCM , I have one new RR-0211 for you for an early stocking stuffer, have you been a good lad?Send me your address and I will mail it out like free n/c from CCM north.Sorry I don`t have a pair for you, I will try and locate another if yours on the bike is chewed. Not sure where home is but just a reminder that the CVBS 2014 Winter Indoor Vintage Bicycle Swap& Show is January 18/14 in Brantford from 8-4pm @  Pleasant Valley Church 100 Market St.Its the first time for this event but looks to be popular, the place to buy or sell or to visit with friends alike.More info on the www.canadianvintagebicycleshow  website. Thanks Jamie

Another small question, did the marauder had white ribbed brake cables? or were they just plain white cables?
