CCM Massey and CCM Rambler

I've acquired from garage storage, two CCM bikes, both I believe dating from 1947. The serial number on the Massey (blue) is partly obsured but it looks like an "H". Both were bought from a St. Thomas, Ontario bike shop and have the metal plate attached - Thompson Cycles St. Thomas Ontario. The Rambler still has the manual stored in the leather tool kit, along with a wrench. The Massey still has the original tires with Dunlop tubes (I've replaced tubes and tires on both bikes so that they can be used). I had thought that the Massey would be older and wonder if anyone can comment on this.

Already I have to update my post - the date should read 1942.

Could we see some other photos of the badges please.Thankyou

1942 would seem to be the correct year for the Massey. On their higher priced models, including the Massey, CCM was using chrome plated Dunlop 28 X 1 3/4 W.O. rims for about 5 years up to 1942. These rims had a wide painted center stripe in red or blue with a thin white edge. By 1942, CCM had exhausted their supply of these rims and resorted to painting their regular rims with a wide silver center stripe edged in white. From your picture, I can see that your bike has these rims. I have had both a 1942 Men's Roadster and a 1942 Ladies loop frame with the same rims. The other bike may be a 1947, although I have not seen any post-war bikes with Rambler headbadges.

I'm posting photos of the badges of both the Rambler and the Massey. Both bikes have the same name plates of the bike shop in St. Thomas where they were purchased. The building is still there, but converted to an apartment. I bought my first bike there, a Peugeot, in 1970. It was then known as Elgin Cycle, but began as Thompson Cycle. A photo is availble on the Elgin County Archives web site if you search Thompson Cycles. There are two photos of the rims as well.

Thanks for the help!

PS: Since my posting, someone has fallen in love with the Rambler and wants to buy it, but I have no idea what to charge.

I noticed that the 'Massey' badge is not the earlier wrap around design.

I believed this 'non-wrapped' design was introduced sometime in the early 40's(?) from the earlier wrap around design.

I saw this 'Massey' badge before on a CCM that I recall was a 1940.

I would think the attachement holes would line up with other models and brands in order to simplify and commonize the frame design for manufacturing purposes (just a thought).
