Hi everyone, I've recently bought what seems to be a Spoiler & was looking to get some information to restore it.
First of all, the paint looks original & the cables holes looks factory, the frame number is: B578289
...Which leeds to my first question, between when & when did the Spoiler was being sold?
Second question, was the spoiler painted in Hugger Orange like the Marauder single speed? or is it a different orange?

Further on,
-The front fender is wrong & the rear fender has been drilled to retrofit a single brake set.
-The seat has been recovered (By the previous owner) & the seat clamp has been replaced.
-The crank & pedals are wrong. The chainguard isn't cracked or anything but what was on it was sanded off.
-The rear wheel is original made in Canada & Front wheel seems to be from a 16'' kids bike, rear tire is from a BMX.
-The single brake levers is modern & grips are from a BMX.
-Fork tube are missing the plastic tops.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To start off, I have a correct 3-pieces crank set that would fit a Spoiler (or a Wedge) along with brake levers, new white shifter cable w/ clamp & white brake cables, a seat reflector and a correct made in Canada front wheel.
So right now I'm looking for a correct front fender, a correct seat clamp & top tube covers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When looking under the frame, I've noticed three well place holes in between the bigger ones that aren't on my 72 Marauder, are they factory or just drilled?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sticker wise, it doesn't seems that it had any, no mark/color fade around where they should be, maybe the owner took them off early? I've look around for Spoiler pictures & found 2 that shows the stickers & what they should be.
The side & front stickers are easy to get, but the middle tube different from the marauder version, does anyone has more detailed picture of it or does someone has one reproduced?

Last question, this bike being dated 1970, does it mean it sports redline tires, or the GTX-442?
Thanks for the help!
Max.

I wanna say the colour is different then the coaster marauder because the 2 we have look to be the same colour of Spoiler you have. Where as our coaster marauder is a lot darker orange. I am not to sure of how many years they made the Spoiler but I do know my parents hub dates it as a 1972, I forgot to look at mine to read the hub. My parents also just has a regular black slick but has a red line front tire. Mine has a 442-GTX tractor grip on the back and has a redline on the front which I change it to since the black tire was dry rotted and wrecked. Also I'm pretty certain neither of ours have those extra holes in the bottom area of the frame. I have pictures of both of our bikes, and the middle seat post decal, if you like to seem them you might have to e-mail me. Since I'm using my iPhone it for some reason won't let me post the pictures but I'm more then willing to send you some pictures and help you out. You can reach me at p_quail@hotmail.com just label the email "CCM Spoiler" so then I know who it is.
spoiler spoke guard may not be correct but this not my area of expertise and i dont know what is but yours is stamped 333 which is a shamano product your rear hub is an aw sturmey archer so i would presume the spoke guard should also be sturmey. i have one you can have for free that is marked sturmey just pay postage from halifax . manufacters may have outsourced parts from many companies check with someone who actually knows what they are talking about i can only guess hope this helps william rudolph 1 902 477 9734
Hello: As always with CCM bikes, there are oddities with the parts that were installed on the production line. My original Marauder also has a Shimano spoke protector. It also has a Super Cycle Wedge crank sprocket installed on it. So chances are your Spoiler was assembled with this spoke protector.
Carl
I've never saw or heard of those Sturmey Archer spoke guard, unless you're talking about the ones on Raleigh Choppers? I've alway seen those 333 Shimano guards, my marauder has one and most of the people that I know that owns one has that too.
Carl: You're right about oddities, I've also seen I think two Marauders having the 3pieces crank & said to be all original, it's also odd that the hub date on this Spoiler is dated 69 - 14, I haven't found any explanation about this, I don't think there is any but that it was a mistake done at the factory.
Also, there was a talk about the two piece seat on here pointing out two different versions, one called ''croc seat'' and the other is a normal seat. It was said that the croc seat was on the 3 speeds and had narrower seat frame painted black, the normal seat was for single speeds & had a wider seat frame painted gray. Now the one on this Spoiler is clearly a normal one but is painted black, did CCM made an exception to the Spoilers on those seat? or is it one of those odd assembling?
Update time! Finishing some things, the seat is temporary.
Alway's the best in work from you, looks great and can't wait to see it again when your finished!
All done!
Beauty! Great job!
John
Looks great!!!!!
Nice ride ! Be proud ! Enjoy it !
Great job. The Spoiler is a good bike to have in your collection.
I wonder how many still exist?
.
No idea, as of now I've got 3 and I know a couple of member that have one. I'm currently reworking this one, recovering the seat and switching to butterfly bars.
