Curious

I found a old bike at a scrap yard. It looked like it was in to good of shape to let it go to waste. I've been fixing it up for personal use. It's rusted off any making but it looks to me like ccm. It has a Merten seat that says it's made in Germany. I did find the serial number it's rusted but from what i can tell it's A95281.i was just wondering if anything could tell me about this bike and what year it is

If it is a CCM, that serial would make it circa 1921. However, lots of other brands used similar serial number formats and many other Canadian manufacturers copied CCM's designs. I suggest you check for CCM and/or Hercules stamped on the components, especially the hubs. Also, post pictures of the bicycle.

Yep, when taking pictures, first use or borrow a real DSLR camera, get a shot of the whole bike from the chainring side.

Next a picture of the headbadge, then serial numbers, if you can see them, and then anything interesting.

Serial number aside, it looks like a late 1940's or early 1950's bicycle.

Well, it does look like CCM logo chainring, though it is almost totally obscured. I shouldn't have discounted the possibility of a 1961 model, though by that time the serial number format was seven characters. The white fenders and chainguard are reminescent of CCM Rambers of the early 1960s, but I thought that CCM had completely transitioned to straight parallel downtubes by that time. While old designs did drag on longer for the budget and private label brands they typically wouldn't have used a CCM logo chainring. It will be interesting to see some additional photos per Lawrence's request.

Ive been working on it. The serial code looks like something then 9523A now. Ive found CCM on parts of it. As well the chain part looks like it has Ccm in the design. I have the bike apart now. Ive been sanding off the paint and rust for a new paint job. Sorry, i don't have a better camera.

The serial number should have another numeral but it is non-consequential. The A-code being at the end of the serial number string makes far more sense, matching what we are seeing in the pictures. Based on very recent discussions in another thread, it should be a 1950 model manufactured in the last quarter of 1949. The wheels appear to be 28", which would make it a CCM Ladies' Standard Roadster. If the wheels are 26", then it would be a Girl's Juvenile model.

This is the best picture i could get if the serial code. It's located on the car under the seat.
