After much cleaning and searching I found the serial number on my Elan. It is GXXXXXX, so now I am as confounded as ever as suggestions are that G was a doubled up serial, but referring to the 60's I don't see G in the 70's as was suggested. Help!
Extensive analysis of 1970s CCM serial numbers indicates that a G-code represents 1975. Consequently, it could be a 1975 model, or a 1976 model manufactured in late 1975. The exact model year is a bit of a moot point, as the Elan was unchanged during this period.
!974 and up is a bit of a grey area for me. I don't have many catalogs and only a couple of bikes from the late 70's.
I'd suggest it's probably a 1974 or 1975.
A picture would help.
