Early Wood Wheel Bike
Hi folks. I'm going to be posting some photos of a bike I discovered today. At first glance, i thought this bike was American, but the Hercules hub on the rear tire leaves me to believe that it may be Canadian. There are no holes in the headtube to suggest that it was badged (besides possibly a decal), and it has a really intersting stamping in crown of fork that reads Model No 65. The serial number reads 140387. The bike has original black paint, and I belive saddle, pedals, and grips are all original to the bike as well. I was going to post this on the Cabe, but in the event it is a Canadian beauty, I thought I would start here first. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Now i will try to upload some photos. Feel free to e-mail me at s_zagz@yahoo.ca as well. Thanks so much. Steve.
Appears CCM built between 1900 1910. Massey?
I'm in the process of buying a CCM Brantford that has the same style secondary badge on the fork crown. If you look closely at the last photo, there is a light brown dot on the side of the head tube - a badge hole?
I can see what you’re referring to Brian in the photo, but I’ve looked closely at the head tube and I see no holes to indicate a badge was fixed.
Good day Steve Z and all,
Looks very similar to an Ivanoe. Rear wheel stay to the post and crank set look the same.
Some pictures to support.
Marc from Ottawa.
Thanks for the comparison photos Marc. What is the date of your Ivanhoe? Does it also have stamping on the fork crown?
The Hercules hub was not available until around 1908. Inch pitch chains also disappeared around this time.

Hi Steve
Looks like CCM Brantford
to me.
Sorry Steve, the Ivanoe is not mine. Cannot help you with the badge on the fork.
Like Dave and Brian have also mentioned, the Branford was also built in such a fashion. Hopefully you will figure it out which one it is.
Marc from Ottawa.
Later this month when I pick up my teens Brantford with that secondary fork crown badge, I'll post photos for comparison.
Sounds great, thanks.
