Hoping someone can provide information.

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me date this bike, it has been in my family over 85 years. My father had bought it second hand before he went off to university in 1938. It came to my childhood home in the 1970s after my grandmother moved into a seniors residence. As far as I know the seat, pedals, sprocket, handlebars and wheels are all original to the bike. The original handle grips were wood covered in leather. It had a chain guard but a support on it broke so my father removed and disposed of it. My father painted it blue, it was brown when I first saw it and I believe that was the original colour.

Sorry Pictures didn't attach to my original post. Might be I added too many. We'll see if these go through.

In reading other posts on this forum I learned that bikes have serial numbers. The serial number for this bike is S14384.

Based on your serial number the subject bicycle was manufactured in 1931 but it's high enough that it likely a 1932 model manufactured late in the calendar year. At the time, this model was called the Deluxe Roadster. The chainguard would have been an aftermarket item, as men's CCM bicycles did not come with chainguards during this era.

Thanks for the dating information. That lines up with the family history that my father bought it sexond hand in 1938. I looked forum listing old catalogs and it indicated the bike was originally maroon in colour. That could have faded to the brown colour I remember when it was brought from my father's hometown of Thessalon to my childhood home in Mississauga.
