Just another newbie from Montreal introducing himself

Hey All,

My name is Jordan and I'm from Mascouche, which is a suburb North of Montreal. Even though I just signed up to Vintage CCM today, I have known about this site for a quite a while.

About a year ago, I bought a 70s CCM mustang from a friend of mine that was in pretty rough shape, but hey, I always wanted a muscle/wheelie bike. Even though it was rusted like crazy, and had spider webs all over, I became attached to my 'hunk-a-junk'. Then my dad told me about his bike he had when he was a teenager, A CCM Mustang Marauder. He told me how many times he used to fall off because the pedals would hit the ground when turning, and when he would fall he would get then shifter right in his stomach. Fond memories. Anyhoo, this got me attached to my mustang even more, knowing my dad had one almost similar to mine.

This is when I decided I would restore the ‘hunk-a-junk’ and give it a new start. I started searching the web for ideas, came across you guys, I bookmarked the page, and sometimes in class instead of paying attention to the lectures I would take advice from you guys, and learn some of the history of CCM. Don’t worry, I paid enough attention to pass :P

Now that my mustang is more or less finished the restore, I would like to share some pictures. I would say I put 30+ hours into this bike, to some people it’s just a bike, to me it’s my baby. First I’m going to explain:

What is original:

·         The handlebars

·         The fenders

·         The seat

·         The sissy bar

·         The frame

·         The forks

·         The whole pedaling mechanisms (not going to go into detail here, the only thing not original here is the pedals)

·         All the bearings

What isn’t original:

·         The paint (was originally gold, as you can see in the pictures)

·         The original wheels where so destroyed I couldn’t even repair them. So I swapped them for single speed with a coaster brake.

·         The tires, and the sizes. They are both 1.95, which I know is wrong, but these are only temporary tires until I get white walls.

·         I am missing the chain guard.

·         I am missing the brakes and the levers, but I have a coaster brake, not original but does the job.

·         No shifter, since it’s a single speed. Not to mention, shifters are hard to come by, which I’m sure most of you know.

Last but not least, this bike gave me an attachement to CCM. Thanks for making this site.
