New guy in Victoria

Hi Folks,

I'm Greg from Victoria.  I haven't been in the hobby very long so please bear with me smiley

I picked up my first project bike yesterday; a mystery men's standard or rambler.  Why the mystery you ask?  The serial number doesn't match with the lists I've been able to find.

It appears to be 9V6686, but the V doesn't show up in the lists I've found.  I thought perhaps the V was actually a mis-stamped K, making it a 1943, but I'm told on the CABE that the headbadge is post-war.  Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

I'll start a build thread in the Bikes forum as I get going.  Here's a coulpe of pics to get started:

First. Welcome aboard Greg.. Your bike is cool but repainted . beautiful project to renovate :).. It seems that the letter is a " K " not a V and if a k, probably a 1943.

Not just repainted, but badly repainted :). It looks to be a maroon underneath the green housepaint, which matches the catalog I found on the site here, but it's the head badge that has me confused. Does anyone know when the perforated aluminum head badge was first used?

@Greg M, I have a 1947 CCM with the same badge so it changed before 1947.

do you think you can get closer with the camera? having a good picture of the letter could help seeing better.

I have a ladies and a mens  with the "V" in the serial #. I thought they were an anomaly because "V" does not appear on the accepted CCM identification chart.

The main clue to the date is the headbadge; it is a post war badge which appears to be original to the bike.  It seems that this cut out badge was used from 1946 to 49.  This bike is probably 1949/50 era.   I also have two others with this badge ( with 48 & 49 serial numbers, according to the chart)

I have not seen this badge on anything after 1950 (I have 1950, 51 and 52 bikes with the solid badge with red painted background).  Indeed, I have late 40s bikes with solid headbadges so both badges were in use at the same time.  (I

WRT the CCM identification chart, its the best resource we have for dating our treasures, but it may not be completely accurate.

Great. Thanks for the help.
I'm wondering if it would be a late 48/ early 49 because the V is the second digit, which would place it after the T in second slot of 48 and before moving the letter to the final digit in 49.
Makes sense?

Certainly makes sense that it is late 40s.
