New Member from Vernon, BC

Hi from Vernon.

My husband and I recently acquired 2 ccm bikes.

A ccm elite from the 70's. (photo to come)

And, one for me! What we've been told is that it is from the '30's.

The guy we bought it from said it was his mother's that she always rode. Now it's been hanging in his barn for the last 60 years. We plan to restore it - and hopefully I can be riding it next spring.

I've attached a photo - anyone have more info on this type?

My husband cleaned up the head badge and it is blue - does that match this year?

That style is called a loop frame. If you want to find the year, the serial number is on the top of the seat tube, left hand side.

The you look up the number on the CCM serial number chart.

Send a picture of the head badge, don't clean it up anymore.

Nice bike, someone has put house paint on it.

The grips are wrong. Needs a chain guard.

If you are going to repaint you have to blast, fill, and get a pro to paint it.

Either that or you have to strip off the old paint, a difficult job.

I would suggest taking it to toxic harald on the coast, best bike painter around.

The original colour is under the head badge.you can paint it whatever colour, but CCM had some nice colours, so why not use those

What I did with my 37 is I put drum brakes on the front and drum brakes with a 3 speed on the back, makes it much easier to use and it stops on a dime.

We tried to find the serial number, but it is buried under the blue paint.

The colour in behind the headbadge looks like a gold, but it looks like there is a layer of red underneath the blue paint as well.

Here is a picture of the headbadge.

It would be gold, That's not a 30s headbadge. If you found a red under the blue, it's probably not a bright red, it's likely a maroon. That's one of the more beautiful colour combinations CCM did.

It might have pinstripes and they would would be a bone white as is the rear ''flash'' and the chainguard.

As for the serial number take some steel wool to the top of the seat tube, left hand side. That model had the numbers just above the seat bolt in the middle of the lug, just under the seat.A 30s bike would have the numbers on the lug but going up and down. In the 50s the number is going across.

I have that headbadge on my 1953 men's bike.

If you have some money, toxic Harrald knows the name of the paint colour. It's ''rose'' something;.he can also pinstripe

That will be a beautiful bike, but it's going to cost money.

Go to the CCM facebook page and I will try and find a picture.

Welcom to the forums. As previously stated, it's not 1930s but 1950s. That specific frame style was introduced in 1950 and dropped somewhere between 1955 and 1958.  It could be one of two different models depending on the tire/wheel size, which can be hard to judge from photos. A 28" tire would indicates a Ladies' Standard Roadster, while a 26" tire would indicate a Girl's Juvenile.

A CCM Elite would be  from the period 1973-1978 inclusive. The exact year can be determined from the serial number, which should be located on the left hand side of the seat tube, 2" to 3" up from the bottom of the tube.

Here is the same bike fully restored. My husband sandblasted the frame and painted it. He also pinstriped the fenders to match the rest of the bike. The only parts we replaced were the handle grips and the rims. (The bike shop said that they don't make tires to fit the old rims?)

Here is the front with the headbadge. My husband decided to paint the area behind it the off white colour to make it stand out better.

Ya they are 26". I'm not sure what the original sizing was. We had to pretty much scrape the tires off, so we threw them out. He said it had to do with the Canadian sizing. The guy at the store had a ccm from around the same age and said he couldn't find tires for his, so I trusted his opinion.
