Newbie from Calgary

Hello all ,

I am new to the vintage scene  and could use your help and expertise,

I received 3 older bikes but this ccm is my favorite to fix,

pics are attached

From the serial number I found it to be a 1942  Balloon? but not 100% sure

the serial number is 1h3842 or 7h3842?

thanks

Yes, it should be 1942 but I'm not convinced it is  a Balloon Roadster. While the fenderrs do look like balloon versions and the front has the double braces typical of the balloon models, extant product lists indicate the balloon bicycles were discontinued in September 1941. The balloon models  also used single piece cranks prior to discontinuation and this appears to have a Trilex. I can't tell the wheel size from the pictures, but if they are 28", then it would be a CCM Special, which did use the Triplex crank

thank you for the quick reply

yes the tires are 28x1.5

i noticed that one pedal has been replaced  ,one has the name of gibson.if that helps

If the tires are 28", then it is a 1942 CCM Special.Gibson pedals woul be correct for this model, as is the Triplex crankset. Looking back at the (1941) catalogue I now see that the Special was spec'd with the long front fender, that did use the double brace. So, the fenders appear to be correct too.

By the way, I must apologize for not welcoming you to the forums during my earlier post. I guess my thoughts were concentrated on the bicycle! Welcome!
