Passing of Michael Barry

Wanted to let everyone sad news that we lost a great Canadian bicycle builder, Michael Barry 1938-2018.

I feel that he's been doing it for more than 30 years and pioneered bicycles to a higher standard which I feel should be mentioned here, plus his bikes were highly sought after.

Years ago I had the privilege to work with him in restoring my father’s Peugeot PX10.
I had him re-paint it to specs over the work that someone else did which was a poor job and would not take direction.

I heard about Bicycle Specialties and their extraordinary work in restoring old classics and drove it to Toronto.

He repainted the frame and used my reproduction decals plus rebuild it with new or original parts.

Michael flattered me by buying multiple decal sets off me by stating that there were “no ‘flat’ spots on curves, consistent fonts/text and accurate illustration of the lion and was second to none”.

I was impressed by so much that I had him sign my vintage bicycle book, The Canadian Bicycle Book, which he was involved and photographed.

Anyways, I shall miss him and remember his great passion for his craft.

Happy Trails.
