Requesting some clarifications - CCM Elite 1977 Model
Hello to all viewers. I am a senior, and from time to time acquire a bike, clean, fix up and resell.
I haven't purchased older bikes until recently. I was asked to sell a couple of original, one owner bikes for friends, and was suprised with the interest that ensued. As of late helped a contact in Halifax acquire an Eatons Glider here in Toronto. Just had it shipped.
To my specific item: I acquired a 77 ladies CCM elite. Not rare, but this one is very good, little or no rust and almost original.
I could not find the ser# anywhere(so far), but in reading items on this site, saw a reference to the laurel wreath around the CCM on the front frame, so Serial # must start with A..do we call that reverse engineering?
I am including pictures about my questions: Rear reflector, not sure if it is original, however it is attached with rivets that attach through to fender brackets..DOES that suggest it was there when bike was built. There is a second part to this.
A picture above the rear reflector show a hole there in the Fender, Thus what is that for? is it for a variation of reflector install?
Front Reflector is broke, needs replacing. It is Cat Eye RR280-WZ. 2 folks have said it is after market. BUT notice the bracket, it appears to me to be an original, so do after market reflectors fit it? ANY idea where I could get another reflector that will fit on this bracket?
Seat, I am told is a matress style, Royal brand. Is that accurate. It appears to be original, as I have checked other Elite bikes on Kijiji that look similar.
I have looked over this bike and could not find anything else that was suspect or replaced since new (but I'm really a novice at this). I checked handle grips, cables, brakes, suntour derailler, end caps of pedals, etc.,Tires are very aged, cracked, but still hold air. I note kick stand says made in Sweden, thats interesting.
Many of you are extremely knowledgeable, especially when I read about all the CCM bikes some of you have, Wow, imipressive.
Hope my query is reasonable. I would like to be able to talk about this bIke with accurate information. So I think I have come to the Gurus of CCM.

Seems my pics didnt get saved, will try again.
Welcome to the forums. The serial number would typically be on the lower, non-drive of the seat tube but I have seen cases where it has been located elsewhere on the seat tube. It could be either an A-code or a B-code for a 1977 Elite.
The rear reflector looks correct. The earlier Elite used a smaller reflector that mounted directly to the fender (i.e. without a vertical bracket) and that is almost certainly the purpose of the hole.
The front reflector does appear to be OEM. Earlier Elite only used the rear refllector and pedal reflectors, hence the comments you received. However, in 1977, the Elite was updated with a front reflector and the larger rear reflector, in order to comply with pending CPSC requirements.
I'm not sure of the OEM saddle brand but it looks correct.
Kickstands were not incuded, though many shops included them as a courtesy. This would be an aftermarket, shop or owner installed item.
I appreciate these clarifications. I have looked at several kijij ads across Canada for ccm elite. Most do not have front reflectors and I do see the rear reflector mounted slightly higher upon the fender.
I found one AD that matches my bike, so it does appear that the later 77 CCM elite bikes did have a front reflector and the rear reflector being attached through rivets to the fender arms. All these variations are not that important except it does help narrow down some specifics about the production window of these bikes.
I have a source for a replacement reflector so makes the bike look complete.
Accurate information is difficult to come by. This forum is most helpful.
Just for clarification, by earlier Elite, I meant te 1973-1976 version. I'd appreciate the serial numbetr for my database. TIA.
