Restoration Advice

Hello

My Name is Paul and i am located in Australia, i did live in Canada for a period and have real fondness for all things Canadian.

I recently came across and subsequently purchased a vintage bicycle that i plan to restore. I am new to this process and was hoping i could get some advice from other passionate people.

Firstly though i need to confirm that the bicycle i bought is actually a CCM bike, as it is missing the front badge and i want to be sure before i start pulling it apart and working on it.

I have included a couple of pictures of the bike and it would be fantastic is someone could help me identify the make and model and hopefully the year of manufactre too. From the research i have done and comparing to other pictures on the net i am 95% confident that it is a CCM bike, an i think around early 70's.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Paul

early 70's Repco Dragster. Looks like you have all the hard to find bits. (hopefully that sissy bar cleans up), and those chromed Sturmey Archer shifters are hard to find nowadays. Here is a picture of one i found on the net. That would make a nice custom!

Considering you are from Australia, it's possible you are loking at one of the Malvern Star Dragster bikes.

There were quite a few different models, but the handlebars were the first thing that screamed Australian to me. :-)

Hi Everyone

Thansk so much for the responses, very helpful. I agree i think it looks like the Repco model, but as i am in Australia it could be more likely it is a malvern star.

Is there anything anywhere on the actual bike i can look for to tell me??? as in a model, brand, serial # etc etc??

Any advice in regards to restoring it?? What about potential value?

I have put a few more photos on (close up's) not sure if they hep to make it any more definate

thanks again

My understanding is that Repco was an Australian chain of automotive parts stores that marketed an eponymous brand of bicycles. As such, it could be a Repco. I don't know much about the Australian bicycle industry but given the general, worldwide practices of the era, it's almost certain that Repco had these bicycles contract manufactured and therefore it's possible that they even came from the same factory as the Malvern Star and differed only in details such chainquards and some components. It could be a similar situation to our Supercycle Wedges which were sold by Canadian Tire and are essentially rebadged CCM Marauders.
