Sturmey-Archer TCW Coaster Hub
So not a CCM problem, but...
My 1955 Dunelt roadster is equipped with the infamous Sturmey Archer TCW Tri-Coaster hub. The coster brake has recently quit working, you have to backpedal about one and a half full turns before the brake engages. I know these hubs had a lotm of problems even when new. Is there anyone who know how to fix it? or some place I can take it? I would rather not replace the entire hub.
bring it to your local bike shop, they could possibly look at it... otherwise roll up your sleeves and take it apart yourself. taking lots of pictures while you work will help you put it back together.
so yeah, I think you should take it apart yourself. soak it in paint thinner to remove dirt and old grease then post pictures here of parts that might seem worn. once it's done and you know what has to be replaced check on Ebay for replacement parts.
cheers
Hello ImperialMkII have you done anything to the rim like recently take it off or change tire or adjusted the axle nuts becuause this could cause break depervation also is there any play in rear wheel. Some times when you take the rim off make sure to undo the brake arm axle nut side last and reverse proceedure when assembling so as not to turn axle and case play or undo the cones When undoing and tightening axle nuts make sure brake arm doesnt turn also.. if it has a over amount of oil added and dont lay the bike on its brake arm side stand uprite.I live in ontario .

Thanks for ther advice guys! Looks like I'll just take it aprt myself and see what's going on with it. I checked with a few bike shops around my area and most of them could't be bothered with old stuff like this.
