Sunshine Value Please...

I hope to find a fair value for this easy to restore Sunchine roadster.  The bicycle now belongs to Bicycles for Humanity and they intend to offer it for sale.  All proceeds go to that organization to help with our costs of sending bicycles to Africa.  The group has already sent over 6000 decent bicycles, ten or more shipping containers and boxes, boxes, boxes of spare parts.

My pictures of the Sunshine did not show up?  What am I doing wrong?

Pretty nice looking sunshine.

It's value depends in part on where in Canada it's being sold and whether it's being sold in a rural or urban area. It also depends on which frame design it is, and whether it's original or repainted. I'm in Toronto and have bought 4 Sunshines in conditions ranging from very poor to excellent. The prices I have paid are as follows: $30, $50, $100, and $250. Your bike is in nice, original paint condition, but it's not the most desirable model (frame). I would try for $150 in an urban area, or maybe $200 if you're going to say that the proceeds will go to Bicycles for Humanity. You might have people willing to pay more if they know it's for a good cause. Other opinions may vary from mine.

p.s. You can advertise the year of this bike as circa 1950.

I will buy it for 100.00 if I can pick it up within a couple hours of Toronto.

Could you contact me at s_zagz@yahoo.ca?

Thanks,

I was under the impression that Sunshine went out of business in 1943, rather than in the 1950's.  Of course, I could be wrong.

I live in Thunder Bay and shipping costs to Toronto will be in the $80.00 range, if anyone from that area is iterested.  I have packed up hundreds of bicycles and sent them all over the planet.  Never had a problem with my shipping.  You can learn more about me and my bicycle interests by visiting MY "TEN SPEEDS:, a website I publish to help others with their vintage bicycles.

The paint and art is original and in pretty good condition, in my opinion.  A coat of wax will dramatically improve the cosmetics.

I also have two old CCM roadsters that are mine and I would be willing to sell them since I focus on vintage road bicycles.  I would welcome an interesting trade, if anyone has something that proves of interest.

From what I've heard from people more versed in Sunshine-Waterloo history than I am, the company started making bikes after the war - 1946? and stopped after the 1953 model year. The serial numbers are continuous and the highest number found is in the 40,000 range, so if you find your bike's serial number on the frame under the seat you can determine if it was early, middle, or late production. S-W didn't go out of business but rather switched to other products. Originally they were set up to make self-propelled harvesters (combines) in 1927, and I believe they made steel office furniture after 1953.

Randy could you email Tom in Winnipeg. We met a few times. oldy57@mymts.net
