Tire problem

I picked up a 51 CCM roadster (I think that's the model) with original painted and pinstriped rims. The tires also looked like they might be original and would be in decent shape if they weren't cracked on the sides. They were 26 x 1 1/2 Dunlop Rangers. Anyway I thought I'd just change them out with another oldish set of tires that I have that are in much better shape. They are 26 X 1.75. I figured they should fit. There's lots of room in the fenders and frame. Imagine my surprise when they wouldn't come even close to getting on the rim. surprise The old tires were snug on the rims but these definitely ain't going on. Anyway the question is what modern size tires will fit these rims? I don't want anything too expensive just good riding tires. Thanks.

the tire size to order is 571 iso marking a bike shop should be able to order them from babac or another wholesaler hope this helps  william rudolph

I have two 26 by 1 and 1/2 new tires blackwall that will fit. I was in the same boat, I bought a ccm thought my tires would fit and suprise suprise no fit..  Ihave since acquired white walls , The tires hve never been used and you can have them . The tire size you need is 26 by one and three eighths, I can still find them in bigger bike shops here.
