Wooden Rims with Metal Liners
I picked up a early twenties perfect loop frame which has a very nice set of metal lined wood rims. Eadie coaster rear and ND front bub.
The rims look very rideable. The po respoked the wheels.
Whats the general consensus on riding 100 year old rims? Or should they be kept for show only?
The bike itself is a repaint with no original parts and a damaged bottom bracket
Recommended tire pressure?
Thanks in advance
If the rims are in good shape there should be no problem riding on those rims . The metal lined rims are much stronger also. I have been riding my CCM Massey Slver Ribbon with oringinal wood rims andno metal liner for about 25 years , i would say i have about 6000 miles on those rims. have done about 8 century rides with that bike also. I just put 40 ponds pressure in the tires. AND Always with a hand pump.
Good to know, thanks very much Dave! I suppose that if you run old wooden wheels without a metal liner at 40 psi I should be able to squeeze in a few more without issue.
