CCM Redbird and mustang

I recently got both these bikes. Wondering if anyone has leads on where to get a few parts and aswell as info on them

The redbird is a nice riding bike. Theres something thats  supposed to be on the seat tube. what is that? I seen it in catalog, Also what redbird model is this? they all kinda look the same. lol.

The mustang has a odd 18' rear rim that apparently takes a 20x2x1 3/4 tire. anyone know where to get such a tire? and a chainguard for it.

The Redbird appears to be circa 1936-1937, provided everything is OEM. I don't have catalogues for those two years but it is either a Special or Standard Roadster. Based on the differences between these two models in 1938, it would appear to be a Special. The missing item from the down tube may be the frame mounted pump, which was depicted in catalogues of the era. Sorry, I can't help you with the Mustang tire.

It dosnt really need any parts. I like it the way it is. the serial number also says its them years so yeah you spot on lol its even got the dunlop imperial tyres. one of thems all lumpy but still is fine. Do you happen to have a picture of that frame pump? im gonna assume mine had it and the person who I got it from removed it since the  spot where it was has mint paint

I don't have a sample of that particular frame pump. However, as soon as I can figure out what is wrong with my scanner, I"ll post the picture from the accessories portion of the catalogue. It's a very basic, nickel plated, 10" pump and CCM appears to have used the same model from at least the late 1920s through to the early 1940s.

See attached.

Ah, but there's nothing like a photo of the real thing. I'm sure the OP will get more value out of your photo than the catalogue illustration.

Thsanks for the link/pics. How come most the red birds I see dont have CCM cranks? mine has CCm everything. every piece  even in hubs is stamped CCM lol

Most of the earlier cranks were CCM too. It's just not readily apparent because the chainrings don't use the CCM logo. TheCCM logo pattern chainrings came out in the mid 1930s (can't remember the exact year offhand).

Prior to that,  the CCM chainrings had four large kidney bean shaped openings and are often called kidney bean or "C" chainrings. The latter name stems from the webbing which looks like two back-to-back C's. Also, after the logo cranks were introduced, the "C" chainrings were found CCM's budget barnds which often began with "C" (I.e Cadet, Crescent, Crown) and they are sometimes referred to as Crown "C" chainrings.

The "C" chainrings appear to be a holdover from the Red Bird brand. Looking at Great War era catalogues, CCM had numerous chainring styles depending on the brand but the Red BIrd is the only brand  illustrated with "C" pattern chainrings. These catalogues also show the "C" pattern as the repairt item in the parts section. This may be an indication that CCM had already settled on this design being their standard pst-war pattern.

The crankset on your bicycle is called the Triplex. It was an early cotterless, three piece design using a three faced spindle. It came out circa 1916-1917 and is found on the premium models between the wars. After WWII, the single piece crankset became the dominant version, though the Triplex held out in a Prolite version on racing models into the mid-1950s.

Soooooooooooooooo I could sure the clip for the frame pump. or actuslly now I need two of them.

If someone in Vancouver wanted to loan me one I might have it duplicated.

Cheers,
