My 51 balloon was round and im pretty sure my gfs 46 loop was a tang. Somewhere in that window is my best guess. Probably changed when they did away with the triplex cranks.

What is a tang drive sprocket? I did Google image searches and searches of bicycle glossaries, with no luck.

Thats my question also. Whats a tang drive sprocket.

The later triplex had a tang drive sprocket and crank arm

Well now I know ..And here Ithought i new everthing

Thanks. Why would they stop using a tang, and why is the replacement called a round drive? The Triplex needs a tang but other designs don't?

American bicycles always seem to use a round drive instead of a "tang"

Perhaps the manufacturing process was easier. Or maybe making the cranks compatible with other manufacturers sprockets had market advantages?

My 39 Rambler has a one piece crank with a tang drive as well as my 1916 Model F (or M, im not quite sure)  CCM logo sprockets only ever seem to have a tang drive slot or both tang drive and round drive so they were backwards compatible.

i have a tang drive  with ccm logo in the spocket with no spot for a round drive and have seen others. some one piece cranks that have triangular crank arms this is why i waswondering  what years were these tang drives used.         thanks william rudolph
