I have this Saber. I was wondering if CCM made a "touring" model because of thenhuge cog or is that an aftermarket ad on. Also the unique CCM chain wheel.
That is a modification by a previous owner. They've taken a 34T, 6 pin chainring and welded it to the inside of a Sturmey-Archer sprocket. If you look closely, you can see the (poor) welds attaching the small sprocket to the web of the larger sprocket.

Ah...you have a real keen eye. I didn't see that. I can understand why they might do that. I find the gearing on most three speeds and single speeds high. But I don't think I would attempt this solution. Smaller chain wheel and/or larfer cogs might be a little leas radical.
