We get letters.....

Folks often use the Contact option on the website to inquire about the age, value etc. of their bikes. Sometimes I can help: often I cannot. When that happens I usually post it to see what others think. Below are two recent pieces of correspondence:

Letter # 1

Starting to fix up as best i can tell a 1969 CCM mustang.  Serial A129442
Stamped on the top left of the seat tube.  Looks to be originally red if they
sold that colour.  What I was wondering is if you knew what the wheel/tire
sizes were for this vintage mustang?  The back is a 20" with old rubber on
it, but the front looks slightly bigger.  could just be my eyes.   This would
help me alot.  Would rather buy the correct size since i am buying anyways.
Thanks
Kevin

Letter # 2

I have a bike maybe 20's ...30's ...?
The chain ring reads CCM.
The brass head badge reads Victor in big letters.
Above that it looks like Simpson in scroll lettering.
The bottom of the badge is marked Toronto , Canada.
The bike has 28 inch tires on steel wheels the rear hub is marked Canada
but I can't make out anything else on it.
It has been brush repainted and I do not see any s/n.
I can't find anything on the net so far.
Thanks,
Ron

Can anyone help???????????

Photos of the Victor.

An A-code should make the Mustang a 1969 model, but there are no listings for 1969 Mustangs in red. Possibly the requester is using Mustang in a generic sense as there were two other 1969 CCM hi-riser models available in red, the 3 speed Charger and the 5 speed Firebird. However, the Charger used a 24" rear wheel, while the Firbird was essentially a derailleur equipped Mustang. Regardless, all the 1969 hi-riser models should use a 20 x 1.75" front tire.

For what it's worth, the fork crown on the Victor is more typical of that used by the Sunshine-Waterloo company. However, CCM also offered this style as a replacemen fork, so they may have spec'd it on contract manufactured, private label brands. Regardless, it is curious that a CCM branded crankset would be on a prvate label brand and it is probably a replacement.
